Since 2014, Island Health & Wellness Foundation has provided grant money to support Island Community Center’s “Camp Kooky”. These funds are used to provide scholarships so that any island child aged 5-12 years old, regardless of their ability to pay, can have an exciting and educational camp experience.
Recognizing the health benefits of the camp’s program, IH&WF is pleased that 30 young campers could attend this year’s summer sessions. Island Heritage Trust and the Down East YMCA provided weekly hikes and swim lessons. Edible Island visited to share healthy eating lessons. Weekly Yoga and Pilates lessons were provided as well as dodgeball and dance-a-thons.
In a letter to Island Health & Wellness Foundation, Jeannie Hatch, Executive Director of Island Community Center said this:
I would like to thank the Island Health & Wellness Foundation for believing in Camp Kooky and what we at Island Community Center are working hard to provide. Without your generosity and faithful partnership we could not provide a camp for area children. We strive to continue creating wonderful summer memories for children that otherwise might not have that chance to go to summer camp. Thanks is such a small word that conveys a wealth of emotion and gratefulness, so with deep appreciation I say THANK YOU.
